The Confederation Cup is going on right now, and, sadly, I haven’t had the chance to watch more than about ten minutes of it, but Spain is kicking major ass, beating New Zealand last week 5-0 and just now beating South Africa 2-0. Nice work, Villa, Torres, and friends. I approve.
Spain was pretty terrible in the 2006 World Cup, the one I watched from Spain itself, so that was disappointing, but, I don’t know, I have a feeling they’re going to be pretty awesome this year. I don’t know yet when I’ll be coming home, but I’m really tempted to stay until at least July 11th so that I can watch the finals from a tapas bar again, because doing that in 2006 was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I love how crazy Europeans get over soccer football. Pfft, and I don’t even like sports! I just happen to really get into major football tournaments and certain Olympics events (like women’s gymnastics).
In other football (I’m going to have to start calling it that instead of soccer, so don’t think I’m talking about the lame sport in which overly-testosteroned guys beat each other up and take twenty minute breaks between plays) news, Real Madrid is shaping up to have an amazing season this year. They just got David Villa (one of my top two favorites from Spain’s national team) as well as Cristiano Ronaldo and some guy named Kaka who I’d never heard of because I only watch the World Cup and Euro Cup but he’s supposedly excellent, so I know which team I’ll be rooting for. Aaand I can totally go to games sometimes, and it’s going to be so fabulous, you have no idea.
I’m such a bandwagoner. Whatever. It’s going to be crazy fun being a fútbol addict.
