Let the Travels Begin!

In two days, I take off on the trip of a lifetime, 35 straight days of traveling Eastern Europe, visiting 8 or 9 countries I’ve never seen. Then, I return to Madrid for a few days, travel down to Sevilla for work, and then fly to Pisa to spend a week with my family in Lake Como before finally coming back to the States.

My basic travel itinerary for this summer!

It’s going to be exhausting and occasionally frustrating, and I’m nervous about traveling alone for 6 days in the middle of the trip, but, most of all, it’s going to be ridiculously amazing. So, where am I headed?

  • Zagreb, Croatia
  • Ljubljana, Slovenia
  • Lake Bled, Slovenia
  • Plitvice Lakes, Croatia
  • Split, Croatia
  • Hvar, Croatia
  • Dubrovnik, Croatia
  • Kotor, Montenegro
  • Belgrade, Serbia
  • Athens, Greece
  • Santorini, Greece
  • Ios, Greece
  • Naxos, Greece
  • Meteora, Greece
  • Thessaloniki, Greece
  • Skopje, Macedonia
  • Lake Ohrid, Macedonia (hopefully with a detour to Pogradec, Albania!)
  • Sofia, Bulgaria
  • Other places near Sofia, hopefully including Plovdiv and Koprivshtitsa
  • Bucharest, Romania
  • Brasov, Romania
  • Sibiu, Romania
  • Sighisoara, Romania
  • Cluj, Romania
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • Daytrips from Budapest (any suggestions?)
  • Back to Madrid, Spain
  • Sevilla, Spain
  • Pisa, Italy
  • Lake Como, Italy
  • Milan, Italy
  • Madrid again
  • Los Angeles, California – home!

Ridiculous!

Have you been to any of these places? Do you have any suggestions for things I must do, places I must eat, tips I must know, or anything else? Blog posts about your experiences in these cities? Send them my way!

  1. Mujer, write me an email. I’ve been all over Romania, was recently in Kotor and Dubrovnik, and have also been to Hvar and Split. I love that area of Europe!

Sounds like a fun trip – have fun!!

    • PS Cluj is only worth it for the cheap food. There’s not much to see – head up to see the wooden monasteries in Maramures instead if you can. Are you taking a train, or a car? Be aware that the roads are terrible (or they were two years ago when I went), so it may take you longer than you think!

Thanks for the tips! We don’t have much time in any of the cities, but it’ll be good to get a quick overview of each. We’re taking trains and buses, so, other than some bumpiness, we won’t have to worry.

  2. I would love to hear more about your trip: email me!! I’m especially interested in the Slovenia and Croatia part and how you got there
