Let’s Talk About the Balkans

Since returning from my epic Balkans trip a few weeks ago, I still haven’t so much as mentioned it on my blog. If you’ve liked my Facebook page (which you really should, hint hint) or if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen my photos along the way, but, knowing me, I probably won’t get around to doing proper updates about each of the places I visited for another few months.

Instead, let me do a brief recap. Bottom line: I LOVED it. In the span of 35 days, I went to Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia (okay, we just paused at a rest stop there), Montenegro, Serbia, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary, visiting multiple cities within each. Before taking off, I had little idea of what to expect of these countries or of traveling 35 days non-stop (my longest, fastest-paced trip yet), and I wound up being blown away by how amazing it all was. I could have tacked on another 35 days to that trip and still been fully energized and stoked to see more.

People often ask me which place I enjoyed the most on the trip, and that’s a tough question, because each place had its special moments and gems. But if I had to pick one of those countries that I’d recommend to fellow travelers? Slovenia. Ljubljana and Bled were both unbelievably stunning, prices were inexpensive, and it was quiet and off the tourist-beaten track. Then again, I’d highly recommend all the stops on my trip, and I’ll eventually get around to detailing why.

I’m currently back in California for a month, a fantastic, relaxing break from all my travels, and then I’ll take off for Sydney, Australia to live there for a time. I’ll be sure to share more details about those plans soon. Hi, my name is Kirstie, and I’m a travelholic.

Hi. Like your blog. Just in the Balkans this summer and glad so. Now back in Nor-Cal and wine country. Have several great friends and travelers in Sydney. When do you return? Scott

    • Thanks, Scott! The Balkans were wonderful, and Northern California’s wine country is too! I’ll be back for a few weeks in a month, but not sure yet when I’ll be back for good. Just living here one day at a time!

  2. Classic and wonderful pic in Oia. After living in Greece for 7 years, and visiting so many islands.. I have to say Santorini is still so unique! Love the Balkans too.
